I discovered this scan while looking for completely unrelated stuff. If I remember correctly, I did the drawing for a commission that never came through in the end. It was supposed to be the Dungeons & Dragons monster tarrasque (which is different from the mythical tarasque) but I didn't have the best materials to work with. I'd never seen a Monster Manual in my life, so I had to base it on a vague description and a low-res image that looked mostly like a pissed off demon with a reptilian tail.
Now that I google tarrasque, I can see the official D&D Tarrasque looks very little like my version, apart from the obvious stuff like horns and the armored reptilian nature of the beast. In fact mine looks more like something that should be wrestling Godzilla or teaming up with him to defeat a three-headed dragon. I have no idea where I got the shoulder spikes from. (Dino Riders Kentrosaurus maybe? )
....I'm kinda wierded out by the fact that I look through dA to find reference pictures for the tarrasque to design the "forged dragon" for my RPG in the making and your design is pretty damn close to my original idea (mainly his shoulder spikes and humanoid shape, I hate how awkward his shell makes him look in my first few attempts)
man that is one badass looking creature. I can't quite put my finger to it but I really enjoy sketchy looking drawings like this. They have certain sort of air to them whereass carefully rendered pencil drawing to me often feel very stuffy is that make any sence at all.
I think I know what you mean. I did a series of roughs of lovecraftian creatures years ago, and I realized that what really made them work was their raw and sketchy look. Fine shading or intricate detailing would have killed them, suffocated the power in the lines.
