Description
One of the weirder maniraptorans of the Speculative Dinosaur Project were the carpos. Actually they were originally arboreal oviraptorosaurs, but I had to change them to primitive secondarily flightless birds (they twisted my arm until I said yes). Basically they were very literally avian apes, climbing birds with grasping hands and no wings to speak of. And they were smart too. So smart we almost broke the "no dinosauroids" rule with a savannah-dwelling carpo that used tools and had cultural traditions. Almost.

I used to wonder if bird wings could ever become like arms or legs again, and it took adopting a jackdaw to realize yes, birds DO sometimes use their wings as props or weapons to swat at things. So the potential to develop hands or forelegs isn't as crazy as it seems.
